Collection Archive
PROMPT
Explore some aspect relating to the themes in this course that interest you and create a kind of archive or collection of your own in zine form. This will be designed as a booklet with written and/or visual content. You could focus more on the visual side of it, or more on the written. It could be poetic or esoteric, or scientific or scholarly—it’s your choice. Some possibilities might include researching a particular facet of place, an existing collection that interests you, a collection of your own, creating a little museum housed in a book, a glossary of sorts pertaining to themes in your own work or a place that interests you, etc. You will then print and bind these and make enough copies for everyone in the class.
PROJECT GUIDELINES
Once you've decided on a theme for the booklet, create a dummy, or full scale mock up of your booklet. This can be created with office paper and pencil. Create layouts of your pages, and adjust the design until you're satisfied before beginning the more polished work. We'll be doing demos in class to learn a few possible bindings, some techniques for creating the spreads digitally, and then some tips for printing them.
Technique Scanned collage, digital art, scanned painting, printing, photography, consider layers, consider typography
Minimum Spreads Five (three sheets folded into signature)
Paper Your choice, consider paper grain and paper weight and how well the paper will print
Paper Size 7.5"x 10.5" (letter sized paper with trim margin for full bleed)
