These are publications featuring original student research. Each year, students in Letterpress Studio, Papermaking Studio, Artists' Books and other Advanced classes write a short piece highlighting a particular artist, printshop, technique, or a book from Hayden Library Rare Books & Collections. Each student designs two spreads illustrating their findings, which are then compiled into a PDF available to download here.
Previously, student research was uploaded onto our blog, but during the pandemic in 2020 we created the first printed publications, self-published on Blurb. Going forward, this publication will be juried by a different external artist or scholar once a year, with the best of student research from both spring and fall semesters combined into one publication. The inaugural juror for 2023 will be Barbara Tetenbaum of Triangular Press, Portland, Oregon, and the final zine will be available at the end of the year. |
