The Book as Performative Object

Project Prompt

Books perform utilitarian duties in everyday life, but they can also actively perform in contemporary art—as supplemental information accompanying an installation, as interactive instructions, or as experiential objects on their own. Consider how books might expand or accompany your art practice or research. Would an editioned zine be a form of actively sharing information, or could a book allow you to add more content to a painting or sculpture? Could a giant book invite the audience to participate in some way? Or could a book embody a type of active reading, as artists Inge Bruggeman and Barb Tetenbaum demonstrate in their work?
